Just another day at the office for Karl, the zen master is only getting faster. This is a nice build up to what will be a summer showdown as Karl makes his first appearance at WS for his first appearance. You know school’s in when you see Karl with the lunch pail, hardhat and punches the clock to go to work.

Congratulations to Karl on number 35 and counting!

By the way, pick up some SpeedgoatKarl’s 100 Mile Blend whilst you shop and go run!

There are so many new / old way’s to brew coffee these day’s it can be a bit overwhelming on the choices. You have your traditional drip brewers and of course the ever popular 1-cup Keurig but if you seek a cup of coffee that taste like no other than you have to step outside your comfort zone.

Sure, we have amazing coffee but if you get it home and can’t brew it properly then nobody wins, right?

Let me introduce 2-simple brewers that we now carry and are availble for you at home or for travel.

1) Aerobie Aero Press: when you first see all the parts and pieces you’re thinking ‘some assembly required’ but don’t let it fool you, this is amazingly simple and the result is even more impressive. If you have the hot water availble and the coffee ground the brewing process is about 30 seconds top’s and is rich and flavorful…strong if you like it espresso’ish or add more water to tame it down. The other bonus is if you have to travel and you want good coffee this comes in it’s own sleeping bag for easy packing. See Aerobie Aero Press in Action this short video say’s it all.

2) Toddy Cold Brew System: if you want simple, un-believable iced coffee then look no further. All you need is coarse ground coffee, cold water and time. The Toddy produces a thick, rich syrupy, low acidic concentrate that has endless uses. Add water and ice for your iced coffee, use as an ingredient in baking (I sometimes use it in homemade energy bars), use it in a variety of other mixed drinks or add hot water back into it for a really low acidic Americano. Toddy has a recipe book with the brewer and more recipe’s online.

Bottom line, don’t be afraid to try something new in the art of brewing and you’ll simply be amazed at what’s out there. Pick up your AeroPress and Toddy today!https://www.jamesoncoffee.com/products-page/coffee-brewing-equipment

September 14, 2012

Karl Melzter grabbed his lunch pail, put on his hard hat and punched the clock in the innagural Run Rabbit Run 100 mile endurance race. Just another day at the office for Karl as he took 1st place and the largest cash purse ever in a 100 mile ultra marathon. Karl posted a winning time of 19:16:02 in route to his 33rd win at the century distance, more than any runner on earth.

The Jameson Coffee team was in Steamboat Springs, CO to support Karl and caffeinate runners and their crews with SpeedgoatKarl’s 100 Mile Blend. Watching the action first hand gives you a new perspective on the sport. Most impressive was watching Karl come down Spring Creek 6-minutes back in 2nd only to emerge atop the hill at Dry Lake and leave 12-minutes up in 1st place never looking back at mile 73 when the real racing begins.

Catch Karl’s pre-race interview with Bryon Powell of iRunfar.com and then catch his post-race interview

Paced by his proud dad there were some lessons learned by young Ian.

1.)Pacing…competitiveness and the need for speed called for the horses to come out of the barn early, 2 miles in Ian hit’s the wall and the dreaded bonk. 2.) Pacing…if you wanna ride the gas early prepare to get chicked by a 7 year old girl at 2.5miles. 3.) Pacing… even when their’s nothing left in the tank you must have a mental commitment to finish and this is where I’m most proud of Ian.

Shameless Plug: So you wonder how a 5 year old can run and finish a 4 mile trail race ‘off the couch’ and after a long hard week at the daycare… SpeedgoatKarl’s 100 Mile Blend, that’s how…yes, Ian and his younger sister Ava both love the caffeinated elixir.

Boiler Up! Indiana Governor, Mitch Daniels, is named the next President of Purdue University. As a Boiler alum and a Daniels supporter, I myself am quite excited about the news of our Governor taking over the reins of my alma mater. Daniels has been dubbed an ‘outsider’ in some circles due to the fact that he is not from academia, I personally feel this is his strong point. In the tough economic times we face, a proven leader with a winning track record is exactly what is needed and is in keeping with the Purdue spirit. I know not all Boilers agree on this but regardless of your position it’s time to rally around our new President and Boiler Up!

Shameless Plug: try our Gold & Black blend, http://www.jamesoncoffee.com/products-page/signature-blends/gold-and-black This name is not a coincidence…this wonderful coffee is named after my alma mater… Hail Purdue!

Research shows that coffee is good for your heart, we alway’s knew this to be true. Now someone with creds’ claims this as well, read on.

The following is an excerpt taken from the April 1, 2012 Detroit Free Press in the Harvard Medical School Adviser.

QUESTION: I drink coffee every day, sometimes as much as three or four cups. I also have heart disease. I’d hate to give up coffee, but I worry it may be adding to my heart trouble. Should I quit or cut down?

ANSWER: Coffee is popular because it tastes good, and it makes most people feel better. Perhaps that’s why it’s been blamed for innumerable woes. Some people assume that anything that feels good or tastes good must be bad for you.

Coffee has taken the rap for serious illnesses ranging from heart attacks and strokes to cancer of the pancreas. Careful studies have debunked these fears, but lingering concerns persist.

That’s why coffee lovers will welcome a study that makes coffee seem a bit sweeter. The research was conducted in Israel, where coffee is nearly as popular as in the U.S.

Instead of testing coffee in a cup, a team of Israeli scientists evaluated its most notorious ingredient, caffeine. Their subjects were 80 volunteers with an average age of 53. Half the participants had stable coronary artery disease, while the others were free of cardiovascular disease; 83% were male.

Each volunteer underwent two tests, performed one to two weeks apart. On each occasion, endothelial function — critical to vascular health — was tested just before and again one hour after the individual swallowed a capsule containing the test substance. On one of the two tests, the capsule contained a placebo; on the other, it contained 200 milligrams of caffeine, about 2 1/2 times the amount in a typical cup of coffee.

Caffeine actually improved endothelial function. The improvement was substantial in both groups, but was greater in the healthy subjects than in the patients who had atherosclerosis. Caffeine did not affect the response to nitroglycerin, a standard drug for angina, in either group.

The study does not make coffee into a health food. But it does add to the large brew of scientific evidence that tells us coffee is safe for the heart. So, listen to your body; if it handles coffee well, then enjoy drinking it.
